ALGEBRA I

Course Requirement:
Grades 9-12

Prerequisite:
Teacher recommendation
or Pre-Algebra  "C" or
better and completion of
the math competency test.
*Required for the class of 2004 and beyond.

Course content: The course will include a study of sets, the four fundamental operations on real numbers and their use in the solution of simple equations and related problems, polynomials, factoring, polynomial fractions, inequalities, functions, relations, systems of equations, graphs of straight lines, coordinate plane and rational and irrational numbers.

Course content: This course covers the content of the first semester of Algebra I at a slower pace that allows for more depth and understanding.  When combined with Algebra IB satisfies the algebra requirement for the class of 2004 and beyond.

GEOMETRY

Grades 9-12 Algebra I with a "C" or better

Course content:  The course of study includes the study of the following topics: points, lines, planes, measurements of distance and angles, triangles, congruencies, inequalities, parallel and perpendicular lines, polygons, similarity, circles and spheres, simple trigonometry, geometric solids, constructions, area, volume and plane coordinate geometry.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT CALCULUS

Course content: This is an Honors class for students covering the first semester of a college calculus course.  Students will work extensively with the graphing calculator, functions, derivatives, integrals and their applications.  The main goal is to prepare students to pass the AP Calculus Exam and receive college credit at most colleges or universities.

MATH ANALYSIS

Prerequisite:
Grade ll-12.  Algebra II with a grade average of "C" or better.

Course content:  The course includes the study of the following topics:  Review of Algebra II concepts, sequences and series, polynomial functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, circular functions and trigonometry, complex numbers, vectors, probability and statistics, analytical geometry and matrices.

Course content: Computer generated individualized program in basic math skills as well as assistance with student's primary math class.  Does not count toward the graduation requirement for math.  Elective credit only.
